Embracing big changes: why it’s okay to step out of routine

I had planned to write about goal setting this week—how to stay focused amid the noise and distractions of life. But as the days unfolded, I found myself stepping away from my usual routine to adjust to some big changes. Instead of forcing a plan that no longer fit, I embraced where I was this week and allowed myself to focus on what mattered most in the moment and that’s exactly what I want to share with you today: it’s okay to step out of routine.
So let’s start with some BIG news, I accepted an amazing job opportunity this week and at the end of March, I’ll be returning to full-time work. This is something I’ve wanted for myself, something I envisioned doing when the time felt right and now, it feels very right!
As many of you know, I’ve spent the last 18 months freelancing as a Graphic Designer. It’s been an incredible way to balance my creativity, generate an income, and be fully present for Ruby. But as she grows, I can see that she’s ready to grow and blossom more without me and I’m excited for both of us to step into this next phase.
Rearranging Priorities is Not the Same as Abandoning Goals
Stepping into full-time work means wrapping up my freelance projects and making new arrangements for Ruby’s care. Between my parents and my partner’s parents, we are incredibly grateful that Ruby will be with family three days a week. For the other two days, we’re looking for a Nanny, daycare just hasn’t been the right fit for us, and that’s okay. Not everyone’s journey needs to look the same.
This past week has been all about navigating these transitions, which meant stepping away from my usual goals and schedule to focus on what was most important. And here’s the key takeaway: that’s okay.
Your goals don’t disappear just because you have to pivot for a week (or longer). This is where reflecting on your week and adjusting your plans, as I outlined in my Organising Your Life for Success blog, becomes so valuable. Giving yourself the space to review your priorities ensures that your plans stay realistic, align with your top priorities and the season of life you're in right now.

A New Era Begins
This week marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. I know I’m going to miss my days with Ruby, but I’m also excited to show her what’s possible, to show her that she can dream big, pursue her goals, and have a life filled with both ambition and love.
I’ll be sharing more about my transition back to full-time work and the process of finding the right Nanny, but for now, I just want to remind you: give yourself permission to step out of routine when needed. Priorities shift, life evolves, and that’s not a failure, it’s growth.
The Benefits of Stepping Out of Routine
Increased adaptability – Life is unpredictable, and learning to pivot helps you handle challenges with ease.
Boosted creativity & problem-solving – A break from routine can bring fresh perspectives and ideas.
Improved mindset – Reducing pressure to "stick to the plan" helps prevent overwhelm.
Stronger decision-making – Taking time to reassess ensures your choices align with your evolving goals.
Greater life balance – Flexibility allows you to prioritise what’s most important at any given time.
Here’s to embracing change and trusting the journey.
